Clog Construction Ltd recently completed a full, one-bedroom apartment renovation in Cleveden, in Glasgow's sought-after West End. The project involved the complete refurbishment of a traditional Victorian tenement flat, with the aim of preserving the building's period character whilst delivering a thoroughly modern, high-quality interior finish throughout.
Cleveden is known for its handsome sandstone tenements, and this apartment is a fine example of the architectural quality found in the area. Tall ceilings with original cornicing, large sash windows in a classic triple-bay configuration, and black cast iron column radiators beneath the windows were all celebrated as part of the design.
The open-plan kitchen and living area is where the renovation really makes its mark. A bespoke fitted kitchen runs along one wall, featuring handleless cream and off-white upper cabinets that reach ceiling height, paired with warm oak-effect lower cabinetry and a striking black granite-style worktop.
The combination of tones is bold but balanced, with the darker worktop grounding the lighter cabinetry above it.
A mirrored splashback adds depth and draws additional light into the space, a clever touch in a room that already benefits from generous sash windows. Two chrome pendant lights hang above the breakfast bar, completing the look with a contemporary flourish.
Oak engineered hardwood flooring runs throughout the living area and into the hallway, tying the spaces together with warmth and consistency. The cast iron column radiators, finished in classic black, sit comfortably alongside the modern kitchen, acting as a reminder of the building's history without feeling out of place.
The internal hallway is clean and well-proportioned, finished in crisp white throughout with the oak flooring continuing seamlessly from the main living space.
A tall vertical cast iron column radiator in dark anthracite provides a striking design feature as well as practical heating. Recessed downlighting and a neatly integrated loft hatch keep the ceiling tidy and uncluttered.
All internal doors are solid oak four-panel doors fitted with brushed steel lever handles. It is a premium specification that brings the warm wood tones of the kitchen cabinetry and flooring together across the whole apartment, giving the property a cohesive, considered feel from room to room.
The shower room is a genuine standout. White metro and subway tiles cover the walls, punctuated by randomly scattered bold colour accent tiles in red, navy, mustard, dusky pink, and burnt orange. The effect is playful and characterful, drawing on a Mondrian-inspired aesthetic that gives the room real personality without feeling chaotic.
The suite itself is well specified throughout, including a wall-hung vanity unit with an integrated basin, a chrome mixer tap, a chrome heated towel rail, a recessed shelf, and a mirrored cabinet with integrated lighting.
A full-height sliding glass shower enclosure and large-format white floor tiles complete the space with a clean, contemporary finish.
This Cleveden renovation is a strong example of what a skilled building contractor can achieve when attention to detail is applied at every stage of a project. From the bespoke kitchen through to the oak doors and cast iron radiators, the quality of workmanship throughout is consistently high, with every finish chosen to complement those around it.
